Nasunogan is the acknowledgement boatyard of the island municipality. Most of the vessels of the island’s only shipping company, San Nicolas Lines (formerly Asuncion Shipping Lines), were built in the Nasunogan Harbor by the intrepid shipbuilders of the island.

The barangay got its name from the word “nasunog” which means burned. Reportedly in the olden times a native of the place was stabbed to death by a Moro who was taking a bath in the swamp. Later a fisherman arrived at the swamp to take a bath likewise saw the dead man. The fisherman by instinct brought the corpse into the shore and burned it. From that time on the place was called Nasunogan.

The sitios of Nasunogan are Bagdang, Ilada, Mas-ing, Pangpang, Papayongon, Bayokbok, Bianga, Sangat and Mayor.  These places are home to the Fabulas, Fabuls, Falquerabaos, Ferriols, Fortus, Fabons etc.

Being one of the better developed barangays it has all the basic facilities for its constituents: barangay hall, chapel, basketball court, social hall and wharf.

The Nasunogan harbor is a perfect refuge/shelter for sea-crafts which are caught by storms and typhoons during their journeys. Its fine sandy beaches offer a very conductive atmosphere for swimming and family excursion. [source: yagting.com]
